M3 and D1

M3 - Understanding Feedback

D1 - Discuss Client Considerations

1. what drugs are you talking about here?
class A drugs mostly cocaine
i chose class a drugs because they are the most addictive and also the most harmful drugs both physically and mentally, this will help the audience understand what happening in the show
I will alter the narrative to show people wiping their nose or sniffing. all class a drugs have different effects and stating that it is cocaine usage will create more understanding to the viewer about the effects will be to the main character who will become agitated and have mental health problems.

2. Does the main character die?

no the drug addict does not die, an old friend comes to try to help him and the drug addict peer pressures him into taking the drugs and the old mate overdoses and dies
i need to be more clear about this to avoid confusion when i am pitching my idea
I will speak slower and go in to more detail when pitching to make sure the point goes across that the main characters old friend, Ethan Rodley is the one who overdoses and dies. This will ensure that the target audience will know what to expect when viewing this media product. I will also state the legal and ethical issue laws at the start of the series to show that the scenes I create with drug usage and death will be recorded in a way that is suitable for 16-24 year old. I will also provide a support service for viewers who may be going through the same problems. drug support helpline

4. "normally the death would overtake the drama"

the last 3 episodes are about him running from police and hiding the body
i need to talk more about this and explain the last 3 episodes
I will alter the narrative of the show and make sure I advertise the fact that half of the show is about this to make it more clear to the audience about what the show is about and what they will be watching. I am going to change the longline to go into more detail about the final 3 episodes and I will talk about how Luke Johnston will be running from the police after being questioned, and also stabbing the police officers questioning him. I will also go into more detail about how his mental problems are effecting him once he gets addicted.

5. 16 - 21 year olds are the wrong target audience

*no answer*
The brief stated that the target audience needs to be in this range so i will try to create the drama to be aimed at slightly younger viewers
I need to change some scenes in the show to make sure it suits the target audience wants and needs. I will do this by following the BBFC guidelines and make sure that there no scenes where the audience can actually see the drug taking and also make the death scene less graphic to make it suitable for 16-24 year old viewers

6. why have you made him the main character?
he tries to get more popular in school
the audience can watch his journey throughout the series, seeing his home life and his mental health, this will create a sense that will mean that the audience will be routing for him
i am going to make sure to add scenes about the drug addicts home life. I will show scenes of a broken home where his parents are rarely ever in and the house is a mess. this will make the audience feel sorry for him which will create personal relationships between the audience and the main character, this will ensure that the audience is routing for that main character throughout the series.

M2 - Legal

Legal issues

BBFC

At the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), their focus is on helping children and families choose well by providing them with the guidance they need to help them choose what’s right for them and avoid what’s not. They do this by assigning age ratings to music videos and programs etc. BBFC have chosen what can and can't be shown to people of certain ages

BBFC have 6 different age ratings to assign videos to, these are:
- U
- PG
- 12A
- 12
- 15
- 18

according to the BBFC rules for age ratings there are some that apply to my music video and I have seen this. My video needs to be an age rating of 12A. the following are the factors that apply to my music video:

Nudity
There may be nudity, but in a sexual context it must be brief and discreet.

There are shots of 2 of the people in my video not wearing t shirts but this still complies with the BBFC  guidelines so these clips can be put into my video without risks of breaching the 12A guidlines.

Drugs
Misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or give detailed instruction.

Alcohol can be classified as a drug, one of the key factors of my video is the use of alcohol, to appeal to my target audience, so to tackle this I decided to use fake alcohol in my video to make sure I am not promoting the use of alcohol or drugs whilst also keeping the target audience engaged.

Language
There may be moderate bad language. Strong language may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification.

I have seen this and decided to use a song with no explicit lyrics, Ur Eyez I the chosen song for my video and it doesn't have many lyrics, which means there is no language which may have put the video over the 12A age limit

OFCOM

Ofcom is the regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries. It regulates the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.

- OFCOM aim to protect under 18s who view these videos, I have followed these guidelines because I have followed the rules and regulations from the BBFC's rules about age ratings, I have ensured that nothing in my video is in the 18+ category.
OFCOM recognise that the majority of music videos are not aimed at children. This applies to my video because the target audience are viewers aged 18-24, I have made sure my video targets this age range whilst also ensuring that the age restrictions for it is 12A and not 18+.

OFCOM state that channels or shows (including music videos) should not be shown to TV before 9pm as there will be a lot of younger audience at earlier times in the day. My video can be shown at any time of day as the age rating is a 12A. I can also have my video shown after 9PM as this is the time of day that my target audience will watching.Ethical issues

p4

I think i needed to speak slower and describe the plot line in a lot more detail, and to explain the episode break down in more detail as well. The client did not really understand what my show was about so this proves that i need to give more detail. I also need to include my supporting documents in my next pitch because I did not include them in this pitch and it may have helped my client give better feedback and have better understanding towards my idea. I said that my target audience was 16-24 however the client disagreed with me and says it is older which no i agree with

pitch evaluation

are you worried about the audience not liking the main characters not liking the main character?

I will create a sense that encourage the audience to route for him. I will do this by showing his home life and the struggles he goes through on a daily basis, the will make the audience feel sorry for him which will make them route for him

How will you show diversity?

some of the characters are mixed and race and some are also homosexual. I need to be more specific and specify which characters are mixed race or homosexual and if so where they are from/ got brought up

Will you have the budget to add hip hop and DnB to your show?

I lowered the budget on the actors I have chosen to create a higher budget for this. I will use UK artists such as Dave or skepta to lower the budget as well.

What shows have influenced your ideas?

Characters like Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad, I have taken the drug addict aspect from this character and my main character will have similar addict traits. I need to put this in my powerpoint

potential questions

Are you worried you might offend people by talking about drugs or glorifying them?

No because in the show I will demonstrate drugs to have only negative effects to educate the audience how bad rugs can really be

Are you worried that your show might come across as depressing?

the show is depressing in some elements however its is also gripping and nerve-racking which will encourage viewers to carry on watching having an emotional rollercoaster whilst watching

Is there potential for multiple seasons?

yes there is because the final scene ends on a cliffhanger when the main character is standing on the train tracks awaiting a train coming his way, so I can use his to lead to a second series where he could potentially get saved.

Are you worried about copyright when adding audio?

I will make sure that I use uncopyrighted footage or I will speak to the creators of the music and make an agreement for me to be able use it in my drama.

do you think your content supports your aims for the drama?

yes it does because I am using real life and also realistic setting in scenes such as school or classic teenage parties. This will help the storyline to be more gripping because it is relatable.
