Filming Diary
in locations such as 02 academy and mint warehouse and other clubs type locations I will use already recorded footage on my phone that I have captured I. the past as I wont be allowed to take cameras in without permission from owners. Also if I do manage to get permission there cameras and other items used for filming will most likely get broken or stolen. So phone footage is the best option.
the equipment I used to film was:
- Camera
- Tripod
- UV paint
- UV light
- Party lights
I also used the lighting from my TV (flashing different colour lights)
I was planning on filming some of my party footage in my house over the Christmas holidays, however the people I had planned to be in the video where either not available on the same days as me or away on holiday. My plan now is to record most of my footage on Friday 6th January in my house. This footage will all be recorded in my living room/kitchen and my garden as well. I will be recording this footage with Millie Pargeter, Phoebe Worral, Luca Rudlof, Harris Duckworth, Sam Tate, Archie Fletcher, Kieran Houlihan, Freddie Watson, Eddie Allister.
on 6th of January I recorded a lot of shots in my house in my kitchen/living room of party scenes with props such as UV paint with a UV light, the UV paint I used to paint on people. I also used party lights to flash and light up the room. I used the tripod to catch wide shots of everyone "partying". I made use of tv in the room to add extra light to the room. the room I chose for these shots suit the video very well as there is a lot of space for people to move about in. I could also get wider shots of everyone because it is a big room with the tripod to keep the camera still, whilst also capturing close up shots as well.
on the 13th of January I recorded more shots at Millies house in her living room where I collected a lot of shots of me and others using DJ decks. I also captured a lot more shots of people "partying". I recorded a lot of close up shots of the DJ decks and the DJ. the lighting for these shots where difficult so the quality has decreased for the 2nd section of the video, I don't have time to collect more footage however next time I record with these cameras I will make more of use of the lighting to capture better quality shots.
During both of these dates I used the camera to capture 25fps video footage. I used I higher iso setting on the camera so I could capture as high quality as possible in the dark party environments of the shots. It was very difficult to use lighting to the shots so the quality is quite low but I can improve next time by have light behind the camera.
Logging Rushes
I have saved all my footage by putting my SD card in to the computer then in have put all the shots into a folder called raw footage which is in a folder called music video. I have selected all the shots I have collected and put them into my Final Cut Pro edit where in that I have selected the useable clips to put into my video and cut these down into more useable music video footage.
useable v unusable footage
this video can not be used in my music video because it has the UV light in the shot which is an off set prop used for lighting up the UV paint to add colour to the video and this cannot be seen in shot
a lot of the shots I captured had little lighting due to the house party atmosphere, most which I have used in the video but some shots similar to this cannot be used because the lighting and pixel quality is very grainy and pixelated, this could have been improved by using a higher iso when recording with the camera.
this clip was recorded with a phone camera and is therefore recorded in landscape which can't be put into a video that is made up of portrait shots. I have still managed to put this in video because I have duplicated the shot twice and placed these copied clips to the left and right of the original shot to make it a portrait shot.
this clip was collected at Millies house where I have used lighting behind the camera to keep the dark party atmosphere whilst also capturing a high quality shot with enough light. the shot itself is me and Luca using the DJ decks which matched the setting of the video very well.
