Filming Diary

in locations such as 02 academy and mint warehouse and other clubs type locations I will use already recorded footage on my phone that I have captured I. the past as I wont be allowed to take cameras in without permission from owners. Also if I do manage to get permission there cameras and other items used for filming will most likely get broken or stolen. So phone footage is the best option.

the equipment I used to film was:

- Camera
- Tripod
- UV paint
- UV light
- Party lights
I also used the lighting from my TV (flashing different colour lights)

I was planning on filming some of my party footage in my house over the Christmas holidays, however the people I had planned to be in the video where either not available on the same days as me or away on holiday. My plan now is to record most of my footage on Friday 6th January in my house. This footage will all be recorded in my living room/kitchen and my garden as well. I will be recording this footage with Millie Pargeter, Phoebe Worral, Luca Rudlof, Harris Duckworth, Sam Tate, Archie Fletcher, Kieran Houlihan, Freddie Watson, Eddie Allister.

on 6th of January I recorded a lot of shots in my house in my kitchen/living room of party scenes with props such as UV paint with a UV light, the UV paint I used to paint on people. I also used party lights to flash and light up the room. I used the tripod to catch wide shots of everyone "partying". I made use of tv in the room to add extra light to the room. the room I chose for these shots suit the video very well as there is a lot of space for people to move about in. I could also get wider shots of everyone because it is a big room with the tripod to keep the camera still, whilst also capturing close up shots as well.
on the 13th of January I recorded more shots at Millies house in her living room where I collected a lot of shots of me and others using DJ decks. I also captured a lot more shots of people "partying". I recorded a lot of close up shots of the DJ decks and the DJ. the lighting for these shots where difficult so the quality has decreased for the 2nd section of the video, I don't have time to collect more footage however next time I record with these cameras I will make more of use of the lighting to capture better quality shots.

During both of these dates I used the camera to capture 25fps video footage. I used I higher iso setting on the camera so I could capture as high quality as possible in the dark party environments of the shots. It was very difficult to use lighting to the shots so the quality is quite low but I can improve next time by have light behind the camera.

Logging Rushes

I have saved all my footage by putting my SD card in to the computer then in have put all the shots into a folder called raw footage which is in a folder called music video. I have selected all the shots I have collected and put them into my Final Cut Pro edit where in that I have selected the useable clips to put into my video and cut these down into more useable music video footage.

useable v unusable footage

this video can not be used in my music video because it has the UV light in the shot which is an off set prop used for lighting up the UV paint to add colour to the video and this cannot be seen in shot
a lot of the shots I captured had little lighting due to the house party atmosphere, most which I have used in the video but some shots similar to this cannot be used because the lighting and pixel quality is very grainy and pixelated, this could have been improved by using a higher iso when recording with the camera.

this clip was recorded with a phone camera and is therefore recorded in landscape which can't be put into a video that is made up of portrait shots. I have still managed to put this in video because I have duplicated the shot twice and placed these copied clips to the left and right of the original shot to make it a portrait shot.

this clip was collected at Millies house where I have used lighting behind the camera to keep the dark party atmosphere whilst also capturing a high quality shot with enough light. the shot itself is me and Luca using the DJ decks which matched the setting of the video very well.

I have got permission from my parents who own the house to record here. I have also got permission from Millies Dad who owns the house in shooting 2.

Justification and content

1. The genre for the song I have chosen to create my video for is a drum and bass song, this genre of music is usually associated with nights out and parties, with quite a fast-paced instrumental. My video will match this with real life footage of people in clubs and on nights out with a lot of fast paced videos.

2. my video will be the whole length of the video and will have some already existing clips but will only take up 30% or less of the whole video, i will also be making sure its non-copyrighted and will also reference the original video. my video fits the genre of the song very well which is what the festival is after. my video will be an age rating of 12a or lower to match legislation laws of the festival.

3. My audience are drum and bass listeners who stereotypically go on a lot of nights out and parties, my music video idea displays this throughout most the video therefore my target audience will be engaged with the video.

4. My song of choice has very few lyrics so is hard for me to link them to the song, so my video is a concept video according to the Andrew Goodwin theory because there is no real storyline in the video. when the song goes "see it through my eyes" the camera will zoom in to someone's eyes and will cut to scenes of people partying. in these scenes it will be very fast paced with high energy characters to match attitudes from target audience.

5. I have taken inspiration from similar music videos from the drum and bass genres who have attracted a lot of viewers, my video will have similar scenes to these videos which will make the viewers want to watch and will attract the right target market.

According to the personal identity aspect of the uses of gratification theory Some audiences like to watch or read media texts because they can compare their life experiences with those represented in it. My music video is created to fit the genre which also means it will appeal to the target audience. This will create personal identity between the video and the viewers because the audience can relate to the characters in the video.

Marketing and distribution

Marketing

I will use the social media platform, TikTok to market my music video. i will be using this because the target market of TikTok is a similar age group as the target market of my music video, this will mean more of my target audience will see the song being used and it will gain more views from possible viewers.

my plan is to create a trend on TikTok trend using the "hook" of my song of choice ("see it, see it through my eyes") where the camera will zoom into someone's eyes and cut to something else. The idea of this is that many people can use this song and copy the trend with different cuts and post al they're different versions of the video all over TikTok. These videos will vary from memes to videos with similar pace to my music video.

Distribution

I will release a short snippet of the build-up and drop of the song, and I will post adverts on an already existing account with a big following already, for example DNBallstars who have the same target audience. I will post these on similar social media platforms such as Instagram who have a very similar target audience to TikTok. this way the same people who have seen or taken part in the TikTok trend will see it more and be more willing to see the full video when its released.

After the video is shown for the first time at the festival I will release the full video on the DNBallstars YouTube channel. an example of artist who have used this is an artist called Monsse who released a video on this channel that got nearly 1 million views in 2 months.
